Freelance international investigation into the European Investment Bank (EIB) projects in Africa

I was the creator of a journalistic project with a freelance international team (Adriana Homolová and Laurence Soustras) that worked for one year on a investigation about the social and environmental impacts of European Investment Bank-funded projects in Africa. We covered Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar and Luxembourg. Our investigation was supported by a JournalismFund.eu grant

5. El Banco Europeo de Inversiones, ayudas públicas fuera de control (1)

Por primera vez, un pequeño equipo internacional de periodistas económicos y de datos ha profundizado en los mecanismos financieros y los volúmenes de las inversiones del Banco Europeo de Inversión (BEI) en los países subsaharianos, analizando una mezcla de información pública e interna proporcionada por esta institución comunitaria. Para ello, han trabajado de la mano de periodistas locales de Kenia, Camerún y Madagascar que realizaron entrevistas con docenas de testigos afectados por proyectos financiados por el BEI. La investigación recibió financiación del Journalismfund.eu, antes llamado Fonds Pascal Decroos voor Bijzondere Journalistiek, una organización independiente fundada en 1998 con sede en Bélgica que se basa en donativos de varias otras instituciones, ONG y el gobierno de la región de Flandes. Las versiones completas de los reportajes y otros materiales complementarios serán publicadas en la página web de La Marea en las próximas semanas. También se publicarán en medios de diferentes países de Europa.

6. Die Bank, die keiner kennt
Eine der wichtigsten Banken für den afrikanischen Kontinent sitzt nicht in Afrika, sondern in Luxemburg: die Europäische Investment-Bank (EIB). Weitgehend ohne Kontrolle finanziert sie Infrastrukturprojekte – mit teilweise verheerenden ökologischen und sozialen Folgen. Bei einem Viertel der Projekte, die die EIB finanziert hat, wurde ein Teil der lokalen Bevölkerung umgesiedelt.
